The Altar/Shrine for SOPOROSE (2016) [commission]
Commissioned to create a sculpture piece for ‘SOPOROSE’ by Eight Fold Way - a research event exploring the interaction between sleeping and sound, at St Ethelburga’s, London (04 MAR 2016)
The event concept is inspired by Asclepeion - the healing temple in ancient Greece and Rome, where snakes were often used in healing rituals. I created the Altar/Shrine for the dream temple by installing curved snakes made from the branches of an ancient oak tree found in Richmond Park, UK, combined with candles, crystals and mineral stones to install a supernatural environment. The event logo print in the frame was created by Mira Varg.
「ソポローズ」のための祭壇 (2016年) [commission]
サウンドアーティストEight Fold Wayによるイベント‘SOPOROSE’は、睡眠と音楽との相互作用を研究するリサーチコンサートで、ロンドンの教会で深夜に行われた。被験者は教会内に並べられたベッドで朝まで寝ながらコンサートを聞き、腕につけたリストバンドから睡眠サイクルのデータが収集・分析された。
このイベントに祭壇を作る依頼を受けインスタレーションを行った。古代ギリシャとローマの癒しの寺院Asclepeionでは、蛇が癒しの儀式に使われ、今でも蛇はヨーロッパで医療のシンボルマークとなっている。夢の寺院の中に木の枝を削って作った蛇、クリスタルや鉱物などで祭壇を作り、キャンドルの揺れる火に照らされた蛇の影が動いて超自然的な環境を作り出した。祭壇中央の版画はMira Varg。
