Raftopia (2015)

Mixed media sculpture, public performance and video installation ‘Raftopia’ for the group exhibition ‘City, Studio or Similar’ at the Lethaby Gallery, London (05 MAR 2015)
 

Following research conducted around Kings Cross, this vessel was made by the PET bottles thrown away along the Regents Canal, and turned into a heterotopian floating island.

キングスクロスのリサーチをベースに制作。元は売春や麻薬取引の温床で治安の悪かったキングスクロスにユーロスター鉄道の駅ができたことでジェントリフィケーションが進み、有名企業のオフィスや高級マンションなどの建築が進んだ。セントマーチンズ芸術大学もその一つ。住めなくなった元の住人達の中にはリージェンツ運河のボートハウスに住んで移動し続ける人達がいた。リージェンツ運河で拾ったペットボトルを繋ぎ合わせてラフト（ボート）を作り、運河を渡るパフォーマンスを行い、水の上のボートを「ヘテロトピア」に見たてた。キングスクロスのレザビーギャラリーでラフトとドキュメント映像を展示した。
